Color plays a major part in todays society. When people think of white people they think of wealthy. When they view a black person they see blacks under the White an Asian races in the economic world. The statistics of welfare does prove that black people take more advantage of the government assistance. However, some people think that color places barriers on their success. Oprah Winfrey, a well respected black woman, is living proof that black people, especially a black woman can overcome the stereotype placed on African Americans and women. I used the photo below to compare Winfrey and a Caucasian lady to show that every black person is not in the middle or low class, and every white person is not in the high class. The stereotypes may come from historically events, success within the races, and the achievement gap.
The color of skin tone plays an affect on todays generation. It all started from boys making post on social sites such as, "I want a dark skin girl, light skin girls to cocky," or, "Dark skin girls not attractive i want a red bone." Some people feel as if a certain skin tone is only beauty. Some even may think that skin tone plays an affect on your ability to be successful in the world, and etc. Todays younger generation has controversy over Light Skin vs. Dark Skin as you would see on social sites such as Instagram and Twitter. Some light skins African Americans make jokes such as, "You was the field nigger" and dark African Americans makes comments as, "You was the raped slave." The jokes are endless, however, it affects the generation as a whole separating the two colors. As some may feel that they are superior or have to compete with one another. Or one may feel they have more privilege. Some may not take it as friendly as others will because it can connect with one's emotions. Back in the day the Europeans thought the idea of beauty was "Whiteness". Many are supporting that thought with the issue making it seem like there is much difference between a lighter completion than darker African American. It brings the historically racism back into the modern generation, even within its own ethnicity. Some may argue that it's a way to show a positive aspect on the history of racism to be able to joke about it. However, Others may argue it is ignorant to justify comparing the two skin colors. As the white people did in the past, giving more privileges to the lighter skin completion because they felt that lighter was better. I want to show people that beauty has no skin tone, within and without the race of others. Beauty is defined in the eyes of the beholder. You define beauty within yourself.
