Memory vs learning; A true representation of learning One of my teachers named Mr. Owen (my English 2 teacher) demonstrated a learning environment in the room and class structure .Mr. Owens achieved this by planning class activities that actively involve the class but implement you to teach the material to yourself as a student were as if we were in a class were we had to remember weather than learn Mr. Owen would have just assigned the class key vocabulary word to write down and turn in the next day. In many classes teacher tend assign a assignment for you to view over just to remember for the test and this sets children up for failure in life and takes away from the primary reason of school. To continue, Not only is the class mostly self-taught and a involved class but Mr. Owen himself in makes sure we have the material needed to meet the requirement in the last moments of the class to make sure we have the material learned. Mr. Owen would also do something different that the other teacher would do he very rarely gave us homework and instead we would discuss the material in a debate fashion were he challenged his scholars on the objectives. Mr. Owens instead of just giving us a study to memorize and just look at he made sure we understood the material were we could past the test but use these same learned skills outside of class also . In the case of a study guide the study guide would be an open response were you had to reflex clear knowledge that you understood the materials to receive credit. Mr. Owens not only made the objectives for the class but for life .Every SPI or objective Mr. Owens was given he did a class involved activity were we would teach ourselves then he would tell the class how to use this same information or objective outside of class an college. Finally what makes Mr. Owen classing a class was you just learn instead of just memorize objectives from one test. Mr. Owens would not only test you on the materials current but skills and objectives from the last quarter, week or maybe semester. As a student you would have to understand and have learned the information in order to pass Mr. Owens test. Mr. Owens made assure that his students learned instead of just remember information for a test no matter which student you were Mr. Owens guaranteed that the previous information you were learned was on the current test and for these reason Mr. Owen is a outstanding teacher but all in all his academic strategies demonstrate the true meaning of learning in school. |
