New Slaves is mainly about how the black community is falling victim into the white man's plan to stop the progress of African Americans. Also, the song talks about how society has reduced the intelligence of people's minds. Connor uses the rhetorical strategy of ethos. Ethos is more of having a common value and having credibility. He is leaning towards the common views that he and his audience share.
From the remake of New Slaves,
"I ain’t no better than you
I watch Real Housewives too
I be watching TMZ
I see the blood on the leaves
I see the blood on the leaves
I see the blood on the leaves
Stevie J and Petey Gunz
I see the blood on the leaves
I was watching Love and Hip-Hop
I was watching Basketball Wives"
Connor is trying to reach to his audience by telling them that he watches the same shows as them. He is stating that he is wrapped into the attraction of these shows when the shows do nothing but entertain and rid the fundamentals in society.
Connor began his whole rap with his first verse by using the rhetorical strategy, logos. He states evidence through his first verse which is more of talking about how mainstream and society presents less-stimulating material. Songs and mainstream rappers do not have a purpose of rapping anymore. They do not have a moral of their rhymes. They do not tell a story, raise eyebrows, or challenge people to think. Connor is stressing that mainstream rappers are placed in the industry to dumb the black society.
From the first verse,
"Now see it’s real jiggy rap that's that stuff that they want to be extinct
Now see it’s fake jiggy rap they push that ‘cause they don’t want you to think
................................................................
I feel like they got us getting dumber for a reason
