“Last Registration” was the second studio album by Kanye West. He kept the same overall theme as “The College Dropout”. He wanted to display themes and ideas that people from all walks of life can relate to. However, this album displayed some hints of some of the different music styles that Kanye likes. Many different artists inspired him throughout his life so he decided to us them in his music for the album. He samples many older songs like "I Got a Woman" by Ray Charles, which was entitled “Gold Digger” feature Jamie Fox, and "It's Too Late" by Otis Redding. These samples of songs help West appeal to more people than just people that listen to Hip-hop. He used his love for different genres to make music that completely different people will fall in love with and want to buy. This idea helped West broaden his fan base therefore increasing sales for this album. The album sold 860,000 copies in the first week alone, which is double of what “The College Dropout” made. As of today this album has sold 3.1 million copies. This is due to the techniques that Kanye West used to make this album interesting to his audience. |
