The second book cover of “The Girls of Fire and Thorns” has a different design and changes the atmosphere that was given off by the firs book. It loses of some aspects but still has some that are the same as the other book cover. It still has that mysterious affect, some adventurous atmosphere and some mystical, but the last two are not that prominent. The one that disappear in some aspect was the mystical aura because this book cover focuses more on the main character while the other one focuses more on displaying the story in the cover.
To begin, the front cover change and it is just center with one background and that is the desert. This background could show the journey that the main character takes in the story but is not as detail as the other one. It could almost show the journey, but it could also define where the main character lives, which makes sense because this cover centers more on the main character. Since the background is not mixed up anymore it doesn’t create that misty look which will make it look mystical. The stars and the night sky are still there so that part is still mystical looking.
Now moving on to the center of the book cover; this book cover is mostly center on presenting the main character. Based on her position, many things can be inferred about her. One thing being mystery; half of her face is cover so that displays some mystery on her character. Her stare seems defiant but her head is still angle a little down so she doesn’t seem that confident. Her hair is down a wild, so she is letting it flow down freely. She is basically not concealing her hair, so she feels proud of it. It the actual story that true; the thing she feels more confident about herself is her hair. Moving down to the dress, I did a little research on its color, which is purple. Based on my research on that: “Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation. Purple has been used to symbolize magic and mystery, as well as royalty” (“Color Purple Meaning”). It is really interesting that all those things that were described have an actual part in the story. To begin, this color actually describes the character in some ways. She has good judgment and she is always thinking; always looking for the best option and decisions. She is always seeking God, so the part of spiritual fulfillment is true. She is always praying, trying to communicate with God through her God stone. This helps her to clear her mind to make good decisions, so purple signifying meditation is also true she is always trying to have peace of mind. In addition, purple also meant magic, mystery, and royalty. Well one, magic plays a big in this story especially the events surrounding the main Character and the main Character herself. Secondly, we already establish there is some mystery with the main character, which is true, because throughout the story she is trying to find herself and her purpose in this world. Last, she is royalty. She is the princess of Orovalle and then becomes the Queen of Joya d'Arena.
As for the audience, the main type of people this cover is targeting are girls or women. This is mainly because the main character, which is a girl, is strong display on the cover. In a way many girls could relate to the main character, especially because of how the main character is being displayed as. She is being displayed as intelligent, strong, but still a little reserve. I’m sure many girls can relate to at least one of these traits. This is not the only train Elisa, but these are the basic. Her character actually develops more as the story progresses.
Now as for the simple audience, they could be basically anyone as well as the other book cover. It could be someone who likes to read and enjoy reading anything from time to time, people who enjoy love stories, adventure stories, mystical stories, and war stories. There are many factors that could specify an audience, but the main one would be girls and women.
In conclusion, the book covers while different in design they displayed the same thing but in different manners and they just focus on different things. The first book cover gives off a mysterious, mystical, and adventurous atmosphere. The second book cover does as well but to a lesser extent. As to the focus, the first book cover focuses more on the story and a little on the character, and the second book cover focuses more on the main character. Overall the audience didn’t change much and the book cover is as interesting as the first.
*This second book cover in discuss was actually published first and the first book cover I discuss is the improved version.
